Chris Brown and Rihanna turned heads recently when they both showed off new tattoos, which happen to be on identical locations on their bodies. But what really struck a nerve with observers was Brown's mysterious neck tattoo of what appears to be a battered woman.

Although many assume it represents Rihanna, Brown's ex-girlfriend whom he physically assaulted after the Grammys in 2009, his rep released a statement addressing the tattoo. "His tattoo is a sugar skull (associated with the Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead) and a MAC cosmetics design he saw," the rep said. "It is not Rihanna or an abused woman as erroneously reported."
